- Measuring tape
- Masking tape
- Paper towels
- Alcohol wipes
- Optional: Drill with ¼” bit, Dremel tool or metal hand saw
What’s in the Kit
- Fully assembled Savur Split Grip Rod Float
- 2-part epoxy
- Mixing stick
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Unpack Your Kit
Make sure you have everything listed above before you begin.
2. Begin Rod Preparation
Use your utility knife to make 3–4 lengthwise cuts in the handle grip (cork or EVA foam).
3. Remove Handle Material
Peel back the cut grip material to expose the bare rod blank underneath.
4. Measure the Exposed Rod Blank
You’ll want 1-7/8" of exposed blank.
Note: The Savur Rod Float fits rod blanks between 1-1/8” and 1-7/8”.
5. Trim (If Needed)
If your exposed blank is longer than 1-7/8", trim it down using a Dremel or metal saw.
Always wear safety glasses when cutting.
6. Clear the Rod Blank (If Needed)
If there's a counterweight or epoxy inside the blank, use a ¼” drill bit to clear the obstruction.
7. Light Sanding
Lightly sand the exposed blank to remove leftover grip material and prep the surface.
8. Dry Fit
If the fit is loose, wrap a few rounds of masking tape on the rod blank, leaving the ends of the blank exposed. The float should fit snugly before applying epoxy.
9. Prep for Epoxy
Set up your workspace. Have paper towels and alcohol wipes ready. Mix the 2-part epoxy according to package instructions.
10. Apply Epoxy
Coat the prepared rod surface with epoxy. It will start to harden in 3 minutes—work efficiently.
11. Attach and Align
Push the Savur Rod Float onto the blank with a twisting motion. Align the Savur logo on top of the rod.
For spinning rods: logo should face opposite the reel.
12. Clean Up
Wipe off any excess epoxy with a paper towel, then use alcohol wipes to clean up residue.
13. Hold in Place
Hold the float firmly for about 3 minutes while the epoxy sets. Allow at least 3 hours for a full cure.
That’s It!
Your Savur Split Grip is now installed and ready to protect your rod.
