Over the next little while, we at Savur Outdoors are going to be introducing you to some of our pro staff team members so you can see who is out there representing Savur Outdoors, maybe even in your neck of the woods. We figured what better way than with a fun little interview! This time we are hearing from Eric Wands! Eric is a 28 year old Michigan angler fishing through the Michigan Kayak Trail and the Topwater Series, who is a father to a beautiful little girl and is lucky enough to be married to, as he puts it, "my amazing wife who puts up with my fishing addiction!"
Savur Outdoors: How long have you been fishing?
Eric Wands: 25 years.
SO: What is your earliest fishing memory?
EW: Catching bluegill with my dad in the Huron river.
SO: Who's your fishing hero?
EW: Definitely my dad for passing on the tradition to me at a young age. Also got to support fellow Michigander Kevin VanDam.
SO: When was the last time you fun-fished, and what did you fish for?
EW: [I'm] always in some type of monthly kayak bass tournament, so non competitively I'd say the spring walleye run in the Detroit river.
SO: What's your home body of water?
EW: Lake Erie, the Detroit River, and the Huron River System.
SO: What's your favorite Savur Outdoors product?
EW: Split Grip Rod Float.
SO: Tell us your lost rod/bow/gear story.
EW: I lost one of my most sentimental rods to me when a tree limb plucked it right out of my rod holder and it fell into about 14 foot of water with heavy current, there was no finding it. Since then I've had a gear track on my kayak come lose causing my rod and rod holder to fall, only this time I had a Savur and was able to not only salvage the rod but the rod holder as well.
SO: What song do you typically listen to on the way to the water?
EW: Usually the sound of a smallmouth throwing the hook and splashing away before I can net him.
SO: What do you do when you aren't fishing?
EW: Spend time with my family and hunt in the off-season.
SO: Coffee or soda?
EW: It's called pop.
SO: What's your favorite TV show of all time?
EW: Not much of a TV guy.
SO: What's food is your guilty pleasure?
EW: Pizza
SO: What is your hidden or surprising talent?
EW: I'm pretty good at drinking beer
